It's a nagging worry - every night, your mom or dad is alone at home, tucked safely into bed... You Hope. But will they stay there? What happens if they get up by themselves? Fall in the bathroom? Smoke in bed? Wander outside? If you're a typical caregiver, you can’t be with an older parent or Relative 24 hours a day, but there's help available. A program developed by Guardian Medical Monitoring may be just what you need to put your mind at rest. Imagine being able to check in on your mom, dad or loved one whenever you need to by clicking on your computer at work or at home. Virtually There Care makes that possible. The program wraps nearly 75 years of guardian's expertise developing alarm systems to keep intruders out of homes and businesses into a system that keeps older adults safe inside their homes.

In addition to providing the caregiver with peace of mind and an ability to monitor activities from a distance, virtually there care has proven to be a cost-saving device. Many families hire "sleep help" - an individual who stays with their loved one at night. This service can cost between $12 and $18 an hour, and that can add up to $58,000 a year. With virtually there care, many families can eliminate sleep care and monitor their own loved one at night for a fraction of the cost. The first year costs around $6,800 and only $1,800 a year after that.

The Virtually There Care System was piloted in Indiana under a three-year Alzheimer's Demonstration Grant along with one of the state's Area Agency on Aging, SWIRCA. Now it’s available in Michigan, Florida, Indiana and Ohio where it will provide many more families with an economical and sensitive way to help keep older individuals independent and safe when you as a caregiver can't physically be present.
